Microdermabrasion Q & A

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a skin exfoliation treatment that reveals its natural smoothness and glow. Exfoliation is perhaps the most effective skin care method for removing your old and damaged skin cells to give you an even complexion.

Microdermabrasion is similar but goes a step further to remove more layers for a more dramatic conclusion.

During your microdermabrasion procedure, Dr. Stephens uses a specialized device to smooth and polish your skin. Most patients wouldn’t describe the sensation as being painful, and it only takes approximately 30 or 40 minutes to treat your entire face.

Depending on your goals, Dr. Stephens may recommend adding certain serums or moisturizers to maximize your results.

Specifically, she offers SilkPeel® Dermalinfusion, a similar procedure to microdermabrasion utilizing a handheld device to suction out dirt and dead skin from your pores while simultaneously infusing nutrient-rich serums deep into your skin.

What types of damage can microdermabrasion remove?

The microdermabrasion family of treatments removes and reduces a surprising amount of skin damage and works on any skin type and color. The procedure is used to target:

  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Large pores
  • Acne
  • Scars
  • Roughness
  • Dullness
  • Stretch marks

Treatments like microdermabrasion can’t miraculously return you to your youth, but they can yield stunning results. It’s completely safe since it’s noninvasive and gentle.

How long do the results of microdermabrasion last?

After your microdermabrasion procedure, you’ll see the results immediately and you won’t need extra time for rest and recovery. Dr. Stephens typically recommends between five and 16 initial treatments to see the full effect.

The results aren’t permanent, but if you take good care of your skin and protect it from the sun, you can enjoy your renewed complexion for weeks or months at a time.

Microdermabrasion provides a second chance for your skin after years or decades of sun damage and general wear-and-tear. To get a complexion that you’re proud to show off, call Parkland Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery or book your appointment online today.
