Chemical Peel Q & A

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are noninvasive cosmetic treatments that remove the upper, damaged layers of skin off the surface of your face.

Dr. Stephens may give you a care plan to follow leading up to your procedure to prepare your skin. When you arrive at the office, she thoroughly cleans your skin before the chemical peel begins.

Dr. Stephens selects the appropriate chemical solution and depth for your peel based on your skin type and any skin defects or conditions that you specify at your consultation. She may recommend that you get a:

  • Superficial peel (removes your uppermost layer of skin only)
  • Medium peel (reaches the middle layers of your skin)
  • Deep peel (aggressively reaches the deep layers for dramatic results)

She layers the peel solution onto your face evenly. Then, she watches your skin closely to be sure to remove it at the right time, revealing a fresh, clear finish.

You may be given lotions, creams, or a cold compress to calm your skin. You might need to take some time for recovery, but your new skin is worth the wait.

How does a chemical peel improve my skin?

Chemical peels are customizable to work for your unique skin tone and texture. You can choose a chemical peel to ease or correct:

  • Rough or uneven texture
  • Dark spots or discoloration
  • Dullness
  • Freckles
  • Acne
  • Lines and folds

Your skin accumulates lots of damage with time and weathering, but much of it is confined to only the layers near the surface. A chemical peel can refresh your appearance without surgery or injectables.

What are my options for chemical peels?

At Parkland Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Stephens offers several popular types of chemical peels. She’ll help you explore:

VI Peel®

VI Peel is a chemical peel that is most effective on fair to medium skin. It reduces acne, acne scars, lines, wrinkles, and more. It even helps ward off new or worsening wrinkles and blemishes by promoting cell regeneration.
